What causes nail fungus and can you ever get rid of it completely?

Nail fungus can occur by wearing wet shoes or socks for long periods of time, using dirty nail clippers or contaminated nail clippers from someone who has nail fungus, and using public showers and not wearing sandals. There are other ways of getting nail fungus but these are the most common.

I had nail fungus and I tried all the topical creams but they didn't work too well. I was also told if you rub Vick's vapor rub into the nail it should clear up the infection, so I did that and took the pill that clears up nail fungus. It has been a year and I do see clearer nails and a healthy nail developing. What causes nail fungus and can you ever get rid of it completely?
Nail fungus, is a condition that affects the nail of around 6% to 8% of the adult population. A change in color, thickening of the nail, becoming brittle, or rippled nail may be a sign of nail fungus. But it can be cured.

It's fungus growing in your nails, obviously.

You can get rid of it with a topical antifungal cream which your doctor can prescribe, which is reasonably inexpensive; or there are antifungal pills such as fluconazole that can work a bit better but they are much more expensive.
You can have the nail removed at the doctors office... you get a shot for pain... it takes a couple months for the new nail to grow completely back.

There is also a home remedy of Bleach and Water... However, I'm not sure what the correct ratio is. It takes about 6 months of daily soaking for about 10 minutes twice per day.

That fungus is really hard to get rid of.
