How do i stop nail fungus under my acyilic nails?

You have to get your acrylics taken off to let your skin breath. The fungus thrives on the moisture trapped between the tips and your real nails. The best drugs for fungus are the prescription ones (Lamisil for example), but beware as they can be VERY hard on your liver.

Best of luck! How do i stop nail fungus under my acyilic nails?

Soak them in white vinegar for 15 minutes...two times a day. I know it smells...but it works..(vinegar retards fungal and bacterial growth and also allows the PH levels in the tissues to be restored) (get a gallon jug...pour in a platic container w/a lid to re-use).... follow up with leaving a topical solution...straight - tea tree oil (bought at your local healthfood store for usually $10 a dram). You may want to ditch the acryllic nails for a while....they will only make the fungus issue worse. Nails loosen themselves from the nail bed if they are extremely infected. You may also go to your primary care physician for a lamasil RX ( they may have to do labs to ensure that you can take this RX) and it is taxing on your liver...It takes 12mo. for a healthy nail to restore itself. (Give up the nails for a while) I used to work for a podiatrist. These were prescribed remedies for fungal toe nails.
Is it fungus or mold? There is a difference. Nail fungus will cause your nail to pull away from the nail bed and is kind of white in color. Mold is what you get when you have an artificial enhancement on your nail that is lifting and because of moisture between the product and the nail it has caused mold to grow.

If it is nail fungus, then you should see a doctor and get a prescription strength medication to take care of it. Nail fungus will spread if not treated.

If it is mold, then get those nails off! Once the mold is exposed to air it will die. It will take time for the color to fade and the nail to grow out, but the best thing is to remove the artificial nails. Do not put them back on until the mold is gone.

Make sure you go to a reputable nail technician and not those budget salons. You get what you pay for!
i usually get it when i have nails on over my nails after i take them off but what i use is this polish called fungus away it should be in a beauty supply just ask they will help you find it
Take the acrylic nails off and just go plain. The fungus thrives on the moisture of the fake nails and polish (it is being covered). You'll need to get some Fungus-Off liquid or other brands and apply that and just let your nails grow out.
be very selective about where you have your nails done. nail fungus is probably happening b/c there's space btw your real nails %26amp; the tips (b/c of a poor nail job). Taking them off is your only option. your real nails will be very fragile for a long time but in the end, it's the best thing for them.

Vinegar cure method for toe nail fungus is one of the best ways towards home remedies. Treating toe nail fungus by vinegar cure method is an effective step, since it is safe and has no side effects, compared to the conventional method. Vinegar basically makes the toe nail bed more alkaline which stops the growth of the fungus.

How long does nail fungus last? after you get fungus, does your nail return to normal, in terms of apperance?

Yes, as the nail grows out, once the source of the fungus is removed (dirt, fake nails, whatever) it will grow in as it was beforeHow long does nail fungus last? after you get fungus, does your nail return to normal, in terms of apperance?
Nail fungus is forever, unless you get professional treatment. Even then it may return. As to whether your nail will grow back properly, possibly not. It depends on the amount of damage already done. There is a good chance that if it is bad enough to notice, it will always look a little bad. Be advised, the prescription strength treatments are serious. You will have to take blood tests and be regularly checked for liver damage. Some people say that using a muscle relaxant called Absorbine Jr will clear it up or at least make it look better, others advise soaking it in a vinegar/water solution. If you decide to go to a podiatrist, make sure you don't use any over the counter remedies for at least 2 weeks prior or it won't show up in tests as fungus.

Over 35 million people suffer from Nail Fungus?

any herb %26amp; remedies for Nail Fungus i found this is it best for this problem ! http://www.zetaclear.com?aid=755773Over 35 million people suffer from Nail Fungus?
Dipping your fingers in bleach will surely clear this out. No need to soak, cut your nails and then dip in bleach for about 10 seconds. Wait about 60 seconds and then rinse. You probably would need to do this no more than once a week.Over 35 million people suffer from Nail Fungus?
Listerine!!

It actually works!

I injured a toe nail (bent it back over the toe, ripping the majority of it off it's bed) and then after several months developed a white fungus which later spread to near by nails. You can easily search interesting and helpful information on the web such as: the fungus grows very well in the high moisture, enclosed space of shoes, so I won't go over all that, but rather, just tell you that I soaked my toes in Listerine on a regular basis and periodically trimmed the nails back immediately following a soaking and eradicated the fungus from two nails. The original toe had more fungus and is taking longer to cure. Initially when I began soaking last spring, I soaked the whole foot for too long which caused a weird, but brief tingling sensation, and the skin on the bottom of my foot started a slight crack. I protected the crack with Vaseline which quickly healed and began tipping the tub in order to only soak the toes and once weekly seems to do the trick! (20-40 minutes) It was nearly gone in four months, but then I didn't soak it for several weeks and progress halted, but I believe it will be totally gone soon. Store brand mouthwash with the same Listerine ingredients worked too! Also, You probably already know you can transfer the fungus from your toe nails to your finger nails by using the same clippers for both. Obviously, don't do that. Own and keep the clippers separate. Smaller for finger nails, larger for toe nails and get to solving the problem quickly. Also, because my child forgets to not use my clippers, I sterilize them by setting them on the coffee pot burner for 10-15 minutes, but plastic on the handles melts, so use stainless steel clippers and keep them dry and clean. Wishing you the best!

  • If i pull out a diseased fungus nail will the fungus regrow w the new nail?

Yes, the fungus will come back, since the fungus is in the skin surrounding the nail, getting rid of the nail will not make it go away.

I would suggest that you go to your doctor, he/she will be able to give you something that will kill the fungus in the skin surrounding the nail. If you don't want (or can't) go, there are some over the counter products that you can use that might cure it as well. Go to your local drug store and look for anti-fungal nail products. My dermatologist told me that the best over the counter treatments are the ones that have the ingredient Tolnaftate in them, since that is an anti-fungal that actually kills the fungus. With most of these products, you usually apply it like nail polish twice a day, morning and night for a couple of weeks (or months usually since toenails take awhile to grow, you must use it until the healthy nail completely grows out).If i pull out a diseased fungus nail will the fungus regrow w the new nail?
no! do not do that! it can only get worse...

but you definitely need to get rid of fungus!

Getting rid of finger nail fungus is easier in some ways, and more difficult in others. Many people will act on a finger nail infection long before they will start asking how to get rid of toe nail fungus, simply because toes can be kept out of sight, but ugly fingernails are a daily embarrassment. People start getting rid of finger nail fungus before the infection is too far advanced. However, it's much harder to get a topical treatment to stay on a fingernail when you鈥檙e using your hands all the time, and it's much harder to sit for 15 to 30 minutes every day with your hands soaking in a solution.

Pick any method for getting rid of finger nail fungus, or any advice on how to get rid of toe nail fungus. If you do any reading, you will quickly discover that all methods are fickle. VapoRub works for some and not for others. Stories of success with a vinegar soak abound; so do stories of failure. Some lucky people report success in weeks; some stress that you may have to keep at it for a year or more. Even the prescription medications have a relatively poor success rate. The bottom line is that curing nail fungus infection is difficult.

for me and my husband worked very well ZetaClear! I think it is the fastest way to get rid of fungus! Nail fungus is tough to treat. The extracts in Zetaclear provide the most powerful therapeutic effect for healthy looking nails.

Obviously, you can't spray herbicide on your feet or hands! The next best thing is Zetaclear. It's made from all-natural homeopathic ingredients. This product works time after time and results are guaranteed. This extra strength solution is designed to be as aggressive and strong as possible, without causing irritation.

It worked fast and still works for me!

I do not know if any pharmacies carry ZetaClear but I do know that you should purchase it directly from the manufacturer and read more about the product here http://www.zetaclear.com/?aid=221781If i pull out a diseased fungus nail will the fungus regrow w the new nail?
I did it (the podiatrist pulled it, actually). It was not painful (after initial shot). Instead of antibiotic cream (as instructed) I used Clotrimazol (over the counter anti-fungus ointment) on the nail bed and to my delight the new nail grew up healthy. It took a long time (about 6 month). You have to soak you toe in warm water with white vinegar (just a little bit of it!) to take a dressing off the wound for about the week, later you can use regular bandage. Now is a good time to do it, since you will need an open-toe shoes.

    Good luck and be healthy.
yes go to a doctor and get anti biotic or you can get a bone infection and later get osteo psoriasis
Yes it will. The fungus is in the skin/flesh under your nail, as well as in the nail itself. You need to go to the doctor, they have medication/treatment for that.
eww. Well, get ready to cry when you pull it out. Dip your toes in Lysterine- I heard it kills all that.... good luck
More and likely it will come back, you prob. need some antibiotics to get rid of it completelyy
    EWWWWWWWWWWWWW

How do i get rid of toe nail fungus??

can u post pics on here? How do i get rid of toe nail fungus??
It all depends......over the counter creams will work only if you apply intense treatment.....if it's serious, you can loose the nail, etc....by then you wouldn't get help from the OTC creams.

You should really see a podiatrist.....foot/ankle doctor...

I work for one during summers when not teaching.

You can be prescribed an oral anitfungal, however, it isn't really good for the liver because it is a long course of treatment.

Suggestion.....file down the nail as best you can. Take precautions. This sounds silly to some, however, better safe than sorry. Don't inhale the dust, wear rubber gloves as not to infect the finger nails.....get an OTC cream, best one so far is Lotrimin....used to need a prescription, now you don't. Apply religiously. Spray your shoes with lysol or a disinfectant, also anywhere that you walk barefoot.....change your sheets etc, wear white cotton CLEAN socks...

To prevent future infections, wear socks and shoes outdoors, especially in the dirt. You usually contract this fungus from an injured nail then by going outside without toenail protection....

    Hope this helps....

I would go to the podiatrist and get a strong sample of something if it's bad.How do i get rid of toe nail fungus??
According to a dermatologist I used to work with, he said you will need long term anti fungal therapy, to rid a toenail fungus. Something along the order of 6 months because that is how long the toe will take to grow in.
    I blame global warming!

How to treat a nail fungus?

home remedies...etc. would be great! !How to treat a nail fungus?
Here are some popular home remedies for nail fungus:

-Soaking the nails on a solution, usually containing chlorine bleach, Listerine mouthwash and/or hydrogen peroxide. This treatment should be applied daily, and with any nail fungus treatment, it takes months to restore the nail.

-Application of Vick Vaporub and essential oils directly on the skin. On all of this treatments if the nail is filed, it will work better. One of the better essential oils for this kind of application is the tea tree oil, commonly found in Australia. There is scientific evidence to this oil's antifungal action, and penetration. Also, as the solution, this home remedy for nail fungus should be applied daily.

-Vinegar. Household vinegar has been reported as a working method to treat nail fungus. You need to direct apply it twice or more a day, daily.

-Pure Oregano Essential Oil. Another essential oil that is very popular because of its properties. This oil is antiseptic, anti fungal and analgesic. A powerful combination for a home treatment.

    Miss Vicki

Vicks vapor rub is only really effective for softer nails - either nails that have only just started to show signs of fungus or infants nails.

You may want to try something acidic (ie vinegar) or maybe a beer soak.Anyone use Vicks vapo-rub for nail fungus and have it actually work?
I have never heard of this, but the last link has claims of vitamin E or vicks vapo rub working for people (testimonials) . Nail fungus sometimes requires prescription medications (ie Lamisil) to get rid of it, due to the fact that it is underneath the nail ....best bet is to see a podiatrist if it is the toe nails..you might have to have a liver test before you take something like Lamisil.

No, did you end up with a fungus because of acrylic nails? If so go to the shop where you had your nails done. They can put some stuff on it that will kill the fungus.

Do it right away, I'm sure they won't even charge you for it, all they need to do is just wipe it on. I think also rubbing alcohol will kill the fungus, call the nail salon and ask them.

There is Lamisil, taken in pill form for up to twelve weeks, Faithfully!

    Problem:

While this medicine works to remove the fungus from within the body, you will have to have your liver enzymes checked. It has the potential to cause a rise in liver enzymes.

Also, there are anti fungal creams.

There are effective and they work well, there is a chance that the fungus will come back, only to be treated again.

Personally, I had a toe nail fungus once, I treated it with creams and cut the nail as it grew out, and haven't had another since.

Try to keep your nails clean and dry.

Some women who get their acrylic nails done can get fungus and it can go to the toes if it goes untreated.

Miracle nail fungus treatment, could it be true?

I have tried everything to cure my toe nail fungus with no success. Yesterday, I was in the salon and a someone who works there specializing in foot care, sold me a topical liquid that she said was a secret miracle cure that she guaranteed would get rid of my nail fungus in less than a month. Well, she filed down and cut the nails and put a drop on each nail. She sold me the bottle for about $150.00. I am amazed that today, the very next day, the nails look incredibly better. They have returned to their white color and everything. My concern is this... I am not usually a believer in miracle cures., and now i am worried that there might be something dangerous to my health in this solution. Does anyone know if a topical treatment can be dangerous? I have checked the interent and there doesn't seem to be any miracle cures out there.Miracle nail fungus treatment, could it be true?
After getting recurring ingrown toe nails partially due to nail fungus, and recently developed a nasty fungal infection in my left big toe, I went online searching for an alternative to precription meds that really works and I've found it!

    It's made by a well-known natural product co. called,';Jason'; and it's called,';No Fungus Among Us Nail Care - Nail Saver.';

Not only was there something reminiscent of pus eminating from underneath the nail, but there was a blackish/green discoloration under part of the nail and the nail was starting to detach itself from the nail bed, along with some throbbing pain. This was not an ingrown nail, since I've had many in my life.

My nail is now reattached to the nail bed, no more pus liquid, pain and the discoloration is almost back to normal!

I purchased it from www.mothernature.com for less than $6!

Goes on like nail polish around cuticles, etc.

My mom found this Zetaclear to be useful. The cost of a prescription was in the $200 range. The biggest thing is you have to be consistent with using any type of treatment. If you do it until it looks better it will just be back. Medication for nail fungus is a long-term treatment. It takes almost 3 months to be done.

To prevent fungus make sure you are wearing open toed shoes, change socks after they get damp, don't ware high top boots and treat the fungus ASAP so it doesn't spread.

There are different types of toenail fungus and if you are unsure of which type you have the doctor can do a test to determine if your nail fungus can be treated at home. My mother took pills for 3 months. They have terrible side effects and her nail fungus came right back.

Toenail fungus is hard to treat but a big problem with toenail fungus is it is very contagious. If you are only treating your nails, this is a problem. Why treat your nails and put the same shoes back on? The first key to treating toenail fungus is preventing it. Fungus love damp warm places. You should try wearing open toe shoes as much as possible. When you wear socks make sure they are cotton. Soak and wash your socks in bleach and dry on high heat. How are you going to get rid of that nasty fungus if it's living in your socks? If you get rid of that fungus, toss your shoes and get new ones. I am all about saving some money but trust me, used shoes is the last thing I want. It is likely that the person wearing them before you had nail fungus. Avoid injury to the nails. This is when the fungus is more likely to get inside the nail.

There are plenty of home remedies out there to treat nail fungus. The main key for it being a successful treatment is no matter how long it takes, 2 months, 6 months or a year, keep it up. And yes, it can take up to a year

I went to a drug store and asked the Pharmacist for something. He told me that a liquid, ZetaClear had just gone from being a prescription item to being non-prescription. I simply painted it on my nail, once in the morning and once at night, and the nail began to grow in a normal fashion. It took a long time, because the nail grows slowly. But, it completely cured the fungus.

I think you might even find a newer item if you just ask the druggist.

By the way, I talked to my doctor about it, and he said that most over-the-counter items are not strong enough for nails, even though they will sometimes work on athlete's foot. He also said that he has a pill which will work, but you need to take blood tests while taking the pill to make sure you are not ruining internal organs.

It might be hard to find but you might try agricultural corn gluten meal. Try garden shops first, agricultural stores too. You add water and make a paste of it, apply it to the affected nail and wrap it with a layer or two of gauze. It seems the a.c.g.m. has a very powerful anti-fungal property and will help clear it up.
I used a combination of tea tree oil and Vicks Vapo-Rub - it was very effective, and more than twice as fast as any of the 'medicines' I tried. Every night, I would rub Vicks Vapo-Rub onto the nail, making sure to massage it into the nail bed and cuticles. I'd wrap a little piece of plastic wrap around my toe, and put a sock on. In the morning, I'd remove the Vicks with a cotton ball that had some tea tree oil on it. It was almost gone within 2 weeks. All of the chemical stuff I tried took at least 3 months. I highly recommend the natural way!

Help!My fingernail is turning green! What is a good nail fungus medicine I can use and where can I buy it?

you could be harboring a hard-headed fungus called tinea ungium. unfortunately, the most effective treatment for that is a prescription medication called Lamisil which you have to take for several weeks, plus your doctor has to monitor your liver function so if you're suffering from liver problems this medication is not for you.

i've had a similar problem with my toenail for a few months too but couldn't use Lamisil. what i did was maintain good nail hygiene. i cut my nails every week with a nail clipper that only i can use, soak them in a mixture of water and alcohol and after 8 months, the infection was gone.

Lamisil takes 6 mos. to a year to start to even take effect and is expensive and dangerous. Filing the green away and applying fungicide or white iodine will do too. If the fungus is not black, it's still early. If you're getting nail tips, the shop should take care of this for you.

Does anyone know of a good home remedy for toe nail fungus ?

Tea tree oil is supposed to be good. I've got a fungus on my big toenail but I'm not good at applying the medication. My toenail looks terrible. My doc says this is extremely hard to cure and very few people actually get rid of it. Good luck. Let me know.Does anyone know of a good home remedy for toe nail fungus ?
Soak it in apple cider vinegar and use tea tree oil. Taking silver will help also. Silver has been used to help fight germs, bacteria, and other unfriendly microorganisms. Good luck. If you want more info on the silver, here's a good start. http://www.ghchealth.com/silver-fuzion.p鈥?/a>Does anyone know of a good home remedy for toe nail fungus ?
! teaspoon of boric acid and 2 teaspoon of rubbing alcohol. Mix them together and soak a cotton ball and rub it all over your toes. Do this every day until it clears up. By the way, boric acid is highly poisonous if ingested! Do not take it orally and make sure you keep it away from children!!!
Also heard that Listerine was good for it. A mixture of bleach and water works. You need to try several of these to see what works for you. You can buy stuff for fungus at some of the beauty shops, like Sally Hansen;s store. They work better than the prescription stuff the doctor gave to my husband and was a lot cheaper.
    Should consult a skin specialist.
I've heard that putting Vicks Vapo Rub on the nail a couple of times a day works. It may take time since the nail has to actually grow out in order for it to be gone, though. But I guess it stops the fungus from growing.
This is a two step process. First eliminate the underlying problem - something made the toe nails susceptible to this fungus. It's usually poor diet (almost always too much refined sugar in a factor), poor elimination, and some element of hygiene (keeping the nails dry and clean). Second eliminate the source of re-infection - clean up the nails and shoes (and any other environment that might harbor the spores). My preference is tea tree oil. Soak the feet with a mild solution of tea tree oil daily for a week, then every few days. Use a nail brush and gently clean, then carefully dry the feet. The nails will look better very quickly, but will need to grow out before all of the damage is gone.
Here are a few to try: undiluted tea tree oil mixed with olive oil (on a Q-tip) rubbed under the nail; soaking your toes in Listerine (seriously, I heard this works); soaking your toes in a mixture of 1/2 warm water and 1/2 apple cider vinegar.

Use one at a time. Also, you could try some Oil of Oregano. 2 drops mixed with 1 tsp olive oil. Use this daily for 2-3 weeks.

Start taking a good probiotic. Florajen3 has 15 billion count... many others are only 1 billion or so.
Canesten is good for tinea and other fungus and you only have to apply the cream once a day for a few weeks.

A web search for canesten + fungus will tell you more.

Have you tried Tea Tree Oil? If not, pl. try it as per the instructions on the pack. Not to be taken internally! If you have tried that and it did not help you, you may try Rescue Remedy Cream (with Crab Apple), a Bach Flower Preparation available at many healthfood stores or online.

Sorry, but Sporonox (a prescription pill) is going to be your only cure, and it takes time. If you just want to cover it up, paint your nails a dark color!
i have bad news. nail fungus is EXTEMELY difficult to get rid of, and you will probably have little to no success with anything over the counter. my mom has it, and swears tree tea oil helps, but i see no difference what so ever. i have heard some people say fungicure is helpful as long as you use it. good luck.

You can try topical lamisil, and other antifungals but as the fungus lives under the nail, these can take a very long time (months) to work. Lamisil works quickly, but make sure you get a baseline liver function panel done before you start it, especially if you drink heavily, or have had hepatitis in the past. You take the drug for no more than 3 months.
Listerine antiseptic mouthwash soak daily for 90 days.
Melalucca Oil works well..but it is under the nail...unless the nail bed has released that part of the nail it will be tough to reach the source of the fungus. Soak your foot/feet in a bleach and water mixture, then put pure melalucca oil on the affected area...don't forget to moisturize the rest of your feet too after the bleach bath. Also don't forget that the fungus can spread, use gloves. If you use any toenail clippers or files on your affected nails..you need to soak them in bleach water or antifungal solution before using them on any other nail.
Try bleach or rubbing alcohol. It will sting but it will help kill the cooddies.
Tea tree oil will work, a drop mixed in with a bit of lotion once a day.
I recommend treating it internally with all-natural Optiflora.

Listerine and hot water soaks every night. Dry feet and rub Vick's vapor rub on toes and feet. Wear anklet socs to bed to keep sheets clean. It takes a while, sometimes over 4 months (depending on the depth of the infection), but it works.

Those who have stuck with it have cleared up long term fungus on toes and fingers.

The scripts on the market do not completely kill the fungus and you can't take it long term as it can destroy the liver.
There is a medication, I think it is Lamisil. There is a topical version and a pill form. The pill form is very expensive and you have to take it for months and it is very hard on your liver.

    Information about Lamisil:

Go see a dermatologist. You will need to take an oral treatment as well as a topical one. It usually happens from Athletes Foot that was never treated.

I personally had an allergic reaction to Lamisil. It was real bad. I looked online for natural remedies. I was using full strength Listerine for about 6 months or more twice a day and I have been using Tea Tree Oil as well and continue to use it. Toe nails can take one year or longer to cure. I don't think it will ever really be totally cured. Wish I would have had the nails removed permanently when I had the chance.

Are there any home remedies to get rid of toe nail fungus?

Supply the indicated deficiencies, listed above, which apply to you.

鈥?Eat a high-protein diet, including Brewer's yeast, calcium, silica, and, if necessary, hydrochloric acid.

鈥?Water causes the nails to swell and they shrink when dry, resulting in loose, brittle nails.

鈥?Avoid immersing the hands in detergent water.

鈥?Never cut the cuticles. This damages the nail and invites infections. Do not push them back.

鈥?Brittle nails are common among teenagers, pregnant women, and those with food allergies. The problem is malabsorption or nutritional deficiencies (unsaturated essential fatty acids, amino acids, calcium, iron, or zinc).

鈥?Hangnails are caused by an essential fatty acid deficiency. Put vitamin E oil or aloe vera directly on it, to reduce further breaking and likelihood of infection. They are particularly common among women who have their hands in water a lot or who bite their nails. Keep nails clipped short. Rub vegetable oil into the hands occasionally.

鈥?If you tend to pick at your nails, wear clothes with pockets; and, when you find yourself starting to do it, put your hands in your pockets.

Treatment, as mentioned above is difficult. For minimal cases, anti-fungal ointments may work, but for the majority of people, trying these ointments is a disappointing experience. The most recent advances in nail fungus treatment are with medications that are taken orally (Sporanox庐 and Lamisl 庐 are the two most commonly used). These medications get into the substance of newly forming nails, and create a physical barrier that the fungus cannot penetrate. Then with time the diseased nail grows out, and is trimmed off. The medications must be taken for about 3 months to create enough of a physical barrier, and then up to a year must pass before all the diseased nail grows out! These medications are generally safe, but it is necessary to watch for liver problems during treatment, and to monitor what other medications the patient may be taking at the same time.

The medications are not cheap! I recently checked with a local pharmacy and found that a three month course of treatment costs between $600 to $1200!!!

How to cure toe nail fungus?

This is a nightmare to get rid of - many people suffer for years. There are many liquids and tinctures that you paint on that have minimal effect due to the nature of the fungus. Preparing the site for treatment, i.e clipping sanding etc takes forever.

I got rid of mine by taking Lamasil TABLETS, NOT the cream. You have to get a script for this from your doctor as it can have side effects for some people and it is a little expensive (but it works). It was about a 4 week course (from memory), but cleared it all up and never got it back since, and not embarassed to have bare feet anymore.

can nail fungus hurt meif i am diabetic?Diabetic with nail fungus should i be concerned?
You probably have nail fungus BECAUSE you are diabetic. Fungus thrives in a high blood sugar environment. If left alone, it could lead to major infection and amputation. I treat mine in two ways... First, I keep my blood sugar as normal as possible. Second, I wash thoroughly, keep my nails well trimmed, and apply a combination of Vick's VapoRub庐 and Rite-Aid tea tree oil (mixed in with the VapoRub庐) onto my toenails and surrounding area each day. I make sure and push the mixture in well under the toenails. It has helped more than prescription oral Lamisil庐. My nails are still somewhat yellow and thick, but they're not falling off anymore. In fact, they're growing back nicely. If you are a type two diabetic, you might benefit from learning how I manage my blood sugar. Just click on my avatar and follow the link under my profile.Diabetic with nail fungus should i be concerned?
Many people that are not diabetic have nail fungus. It is not dangerous, just ugly and annoying. The prescription medications that are out there for it can have very serious side effects and they are not recommended by many doctors. Yes, Vicks actually does help reduce the appearance of nail fungus. You need to rub it on liberally several times a day and be sure to get it under the toenail. It will be quite awhile before you see any difference, but even if you took the prescriptions medications, they also can take about 7 to 8 months before they have a noticeable effect.

All of these answers are great. It is probably going to take more than a week to get rid of it. However, in order to minimize the discoloration on your nails, you can soak your feet in Efferdent and it helps. Good luck! How can u get rid of toe nail fungus in less than a week?
If it's a mild case you can trim the nails as deep as possible without hurting yourself! and try soaking your affected fingers in diluted bleach for 15 to 20 minutes every night or when you have time to spare. Oil or ,moisturize your cuticles and nails well after wards. Otherwise, you should really see a doctor or at least let your pharmacist give you something. Batrafen and Lamisil work pretty good. There are herbal remedies available too such as mixtures of Tea Tree oil, Neem Seed Oil and Lemon Oil. I can't remember the name of the company that actually manufactures that particular mix but I guess you can buy the oils and mix it your self. Remember, nail fungus can reside deep in your nail bed and under your cuticle so it can be hard to eliminate and generally takes longer than a week to go away. How can u get rid of toe nail fungus in less than a week?
Apply tea tree oil directly to the nail. Also, you might consider going to a health food/supplements store; there are some homeopathic formulas that would probably help to clear it up really quickly.
The infection is actually in your nail bed, which is the tissue directly beneath the toe nail. The medicines currently available to treat the condition take as long as 6 months to eliminate the fungus. Besides surgery, which would remove the fungus but also sometimes the nail itself, I do not know of any quick fix options, although if you can locate a website for podiatry, it may have more information.

Can using Vicks Vaporub help cure nail fungus?

No, there is no anti fungal in Vicks.

Buy some tea tree oil from the pharmacy or Natural Health food store and use that. It is safe and effective.

Make sure it is a good grade though T36 C5 which is a pharmaceutical grade.

What will remove NAIL FUNGUS, excluding oral medications?

There are oral antifungal medications to kill nail fungus. I'm sure you have seen the Lamisil commercials. Downside is they take at least 3 months of consecutive use before you see significant improvement! Three months on antifungals can cause major liver damage! All these meds are the same drug - I think ketoconazole is the name. It is a steroid derivative which also affects the liver's metabolism of other drugs and hormones. So I would strongly consider living with the nails.

Sorry. As far as I know, that is the only method that works. What will remove NAIL FUNGUS, excluding oral medications?
Once you notice the fungus under the nail, there are nail products to use. Don't worry, if you catch it in time you can treat it. OPI makes a good one, go on their site. Orly nail products makes one as well.

I had one and had acrylic nails, I left them on and treated it. Many people have fungus and don't know it. I had an esthetician tell me I had a fungus on my toe. It was actually a bruise on my toe where my 130 dog stepped on it.What will remove NAIL FUNGUS, excluding oral medications?
Fungus proliferates in damp and moist areas. There is few things you can do to prevent further growth...1)keep nails and hand/feet as dry as possible. 2)Keep nails short and always sterilize clippers and nail files before and after use.

Best way to eliminate fungus is to use an alcohol(dilute with little water) like vodka and soak your hands/feet in it for about 5 minutes.

You can also try an eau de toilette on infected area... spray it on throughout the day... don't overdo it...it may cause irritation and sensitivity...

    Good luck

Where can i get tea tree oil ,to get rid of finger nail fungus?

Vitiaman store . I have toenail fungus as we speak. I used oregano liquid. I broke the lid to it adidn'tdnt not realize that it was broke so I pdish washinging liquid on the bottle because the bottle was sorta of greasy anddidn'tdnt realize the lid was cracked and I got soap in the bottle and had to throw it away. I also used vinegar it helped some . But I have read that eventually the toenail fungus will come back . Now Im on a prescription to help get rid of it. The nail fungus is very contagious and you can get it on your toenails. I have it on 4 toes on my right foot and two on my left . This has been very painful and it has mad my toenails deformed and the Dr said that it will always be like that. I got mine from having pedicures done . They used the same nail clippers on each customer with out sterlizing then first and after they used the foot bath bowl they didn't sanitizeize it after using on a customer before me . So take caution . Make sure if you trim your nails to use bleach on the nail clippers and then rinse them and leave them out to air dry . Always wash your hands this will spread to other finger nails and on to your other hand. and to your feet and other people can get it alsoWhere can i get tea tree oil ,to get rid of finger nail fungus?
TT oil is an excellent and safe anti fungal. Get it from the health food store but be sure that it is not essence or such, you want aromatherapy grade. If you have toe nail fungus will they refuse to do your pedicure at the nail salon?

Well, if your nail technician will do your pedicure WITH fungus or an infection of any kind, it is probably where you caught it. You should really stay away from any beauty technician that will try to cover something like that. Go see a podiatrist and also look at some over the counter/home remedies...such as taking a nail file and run it over the surface of the toenail then rub Vick's Vapor Rub into the top of the toenail. The grooves will help keep the Vick's on the toenail. Do this for several days/nights in a row as often as you can.The Eucalyptus in the Vick's will kill the fungus on the nail faster than any store-bought anti-fungal available !...or so says the home remedies book.

When the nail grows too long it splits at the tip. When I cut the nail short it actually hurts where the tissue is closest to my skin. I can't find anything like it online. Is this a nail fungus? How do I treat it?
Yeah the appearance that you write seems to be nail fungus.

First of all try some preventive measures and keep in mind that fungus is contagious for others also.

Avoid plastic shoes and materials that have been treated to keep water out. They trap perspiration and create a warm, moist place for fungus to grow.

When you鈥檙e home take your socks off and expose your feet to the air.

Clean your toenails. Toenails are breeding spots for the athlete's foot fungus.

Avoid socks made of synthetic materials, because they can retain moisture against the skin. Cotton and wool socks allow moisture to be drawn away from the feet.

Throw away worn-out exercise shoes. Never borrow other people鈥檚 shoes.

Apply a little cornstarch to your shoes before and after wearing them. Cornstarch is more absorbent than talc and contains fewer impurities.

Clean your feet thoroughly at least twice a day. Fungi are parasites that survive by ';eating'; the outside layer of your dead skin. Soap and water help to remove this layer. Be sure to thoroughly dry your feet afterward, paying particular attention to the web spaces in between your toes.

For further information and remedy visit the following linkIs this a nail fungus? How do I treat it?
It does sound like a fungus. But you can use a natural product called Fungus No More. It is an FDA approved product. Fungus does not ';live'; in finger or toenails since these nails are made up of dead cells. It鈥檚 the fungus in the surrounding live tissue that causes the nails to grow thick, yellow, and brittle. Fungus No More does not penetrate the finger or toenail itself. Rather, it effectively kills the fungal infection in the surrounding tissues, allowing the new nail growth to be healthy and clean in appearance.

It sounds like it can be nail fungus. If you verify that it is in fact fungus, I recommend Claripro. I found a link online where they're offering a free supply. I would take advantage of the free supply and see if it works for you. Make sure you apply the product regularly. Good luck!
It's probably a fungus. Why don't you go to a doctor to find out for sure. Fungus is easily treated.

I found a website, Toenailfungus.org. Someone had written in on a forum that you need to find a podiatrist that will grind the toenails down and then apply the bleach pen twice a day over the entire surface of the nail and let bleach dry before putting on your socks. States it takes about two or three months of this and that toenails have to regularly be ground down and the bleach applied every day. Hope this helps you out.

  • Is there any future health problems if nail fungus goes untreated?

Untreated nails can affect your quality of life. When you have nail fungus, the nail will become increasingly thickened and discolored. An untreated toenail infected with nail fungus can worsen to the point that it is painful to walk. If the infection worsens, it can cause foot ulcers. This is especially dangerous for individuals with diabetes.

Without treatment, nail fungus will continue to infect your nail. Although it may take a while, untreated nail fungus usually gets worse. It may spread to other nails and sometimes the surrounding skin. Although it is not common, nail fungus also can spread to others in your family who share your bathroom and other living spaces.

Nail Fungus (also called tinea unguium or onychomychosis) affects the fingernails and toenails of an estimated 30-35 million Americans. This disease is commonly misunderstood and left untreated for various reasons. The fungi that cause toenail fungus are related to those that cause ringworm, athelete's foot, and other common fungal infections. Toenail fungus, in particular, is notoriously difficult to treat. These fungi can also be confused with other conditions, such as psoriasis of the nails, nail ridges, and sometimes bacterial infections.

Also known as Onychomycosis, fungal nail infections are caused by an organism that digests the keratin found in our fingernails and toenails. Our nails are naturally built to be strong barriers, and resistant to fungi and other infections. The strength of this barrier also makes nail fungus very difficult to eradicate once it is present.

Try soaking it for 30mins twice each day in warm white vinegar. Keep it trimmed and cleaned out underneath as best you can. I've also seen some success with diluted (1:3) chlorine bleach.

Over the counter Fungi-Nail works, but you'll have to wear a small gauze compress soaked in it across the top of the nail. Eventually (7-10 days) the nail will soften and you can remove it with surgical scissors (no pain). If you do a good job trimming away the nail and scraping the area, when the nail regrows you have a good chance of it being perfect again.Does anyone have a home remedy that REALLY works on a fungus nail?

Go to a podiatrist. (did i spell that right? you know- a foot doctor.) I have the same problem, my toenail actually came halfway off and there was a new one growing underneath it. The doctor cut the rest of the nail off (didn't hurt a bit because it was dead) and cleaned the skin underneath (just tickles a bit) and he gave me a topical laquer to put on my toe at night before bed. I go back every month for him to file it and see if the medicine is doing it's job. If it doesn't work, he'll put me on Lamisil... I don't think there are home remedies that will kill it, but the doctor said that chlorine and sun helps. Good luck.
I used over the counter remedies which didn't work. I then went to a podiatrist and he did a blood test. wanted to check my liver because it can cause liver damage. You have to use it twice a day for 6 months and cannot forget an application. I used an ear dropper. You can pick it up at any grocery store and it is relatively inexpensive if you purchase it in the gallon jug. It works and it is easy. Try it you have nothing to lose but the fungus.

Best and fastest way to get rid of under toe nail fungus?

big toe nail dark colored, hard. and hard to clipBest and fastest way to get rid of under toe nail fungus?
    Hi

    unfortunately there is not a ';best solution.';

there are two ways to to try to treat the fungus.

    1. Using chemically produced, comercial products - such as Lamisil (Terbinafine), Diflucan (Flucanazole) and Sporanox (Itraconazole) to name but 3 - these are usually taken oraly and in tablet form. There are possible side effects though with nearly all of the comercial prodcucts - although the side affects are mild and short term you should be aware that they exist before under taking treatment. This course of action can usually become very expensive resulting in hundreds of pounds.

    2. Natural Home Remedy - such as a vinegar soak or spray, Tea Tree Oil or Oregano oil.

These have less harmful side effects (if any) and are reletively inexpensive.

So, dont think fastest - think best.

Fungi thrives in damp warm environments - so try to create a hostile home not a inviting one.

A personal recommendation would be anything acidic - (ie vinegar)

Allocate a ten minute slot in the morning and a ten minute slot at night and soak your feet - do this for 6 months even after you think the fungus has gone.

....And clip that toenail - and rough it up a bit with an emery board as the (vinegar/Tea tree oil) will not only need to get beneath the nail but into the nail material.Best and fastest way to get rid of under toe nail fungus?
I had the same problem............. don't use over the counter stuff.... get a doctor to prescribe Lamisil... this is taken in pill form.... it works.
    See a podiatrist.
LAMISIL. its expensive but it works. the over-the counter stuff isn't great but its more affordable if you don't have the money.
My doctor told me to apply a thin coat of vaseline on the nail 2xday for 8 weeks. He read in some Northwestern article that this method is supposed to be very effecitve. He told me Lamisil is hard on the liver and the nail polish stuff is not very effective and you have to use it for a long time.
Lamasil Cream, or believe it or not, proven method...Vicks Vaporub.
To get rid of toenail fungus, and prevent it from spreading, here are some tips.

    1. Put anti-fungal powder or spray in your shoes to help fight off the fungus.

    2. Air your shoes, and don't wear them if they are wet.

    3. Change your insoles frequently, and make sure they dry out between use.

    4. Bleach out the shower on a weekly basis.

    5. Wash your shower mat weekly.

    6. Wear sandals in the gym and don't walk around barefoot in public.

    7. Try not to cause trauma to your toes. Trauma is the biggest reason why people end up with nail fungus.

    8. Keep your nails short, but not to the point where they begin to bleed.

In summing up, there are different treatments to consider if you have toenail fungus. Always try and prevent nail fungus in the first place.

If you do have to use a treatment, find something which is natural and that won't damage your health.
See a doctor for prescription meds
Lamisil AT (preferrably the pill form [which I believe is only available with a prescription]) over the creams, but they work OK too.
soak your feet in as hot a pan of wateras you can stand that has a disinfectant liquid soap=brush your nails with a soft childs toothbrush(at $ store for a buck) and if this doesn,t heal them within a few days see a Dr
As someone else mentioned, see a podiatrist (foot dr). The dr can clip the tips (dead, white part) of your nails and have you take it to a lab to be examined (can take few weeks for diagnosis) to find out if it is fungus or something else. If it is fungus, the dr may be able to prescribe either lamasil (but can be very tough on the liver) or a nail polish type of medication for the fungus. I believe that if it is fungus, that it can take several months for the healthy nail to grow in.

And I have heard of using vicks vapor rub on toenail fungus, however, please do get a definitive diagnosis from a podiatrist. And please do Not use tea tree oil as a podiatrist had told me that it was not regulated as to how safe it is.

Moisture, heat and darkness is required for the growth of fungus.

Fungal nail infections may be difficult to treat. Even with successful treatment, it is common for the fungus to return.

Good general health and hygiene help prevent fungal infections.

    * Keep the skin clean and dry.

    * Wash and dry your hands thoroughly after contact with any fungal infection.I have a nail fungus and am struggling to get rid of it, I dont want prescribed drugs can anyone help?
First of all nail fungus is, also known as Onychomycosis, is an organism which digests the keratin found in your fingernails and toenails. Onychia is an inflammation of the matrix (surrounding tissue)of the nail with formation of puss and shedding of the nail.

The fingernails and toenails are naturally built to be strong barriers and resistant to fungi and other infections. If the barrier isn't strong then once the infection is present, it's very difficult to eliminate sometimes. Nails may turn green or yellow or a darker color .

1 - Topical treatments like liquids and creams are commonly used to treat less severe cases. These treatments are usually acid-based liquids or anti-fungal creams.

2 -external treatments are powerful anti-fungal medications, such as Lamisil or Sporanox. Prescription oral medications are usually used in more severe or difficult cases. Nail infections can be difficult to cure and can be treated effectively.

One home remedy that has been very successful in getting rid of nail fungus is the Vinegar Cure For Toe Nails and finger nails. U can also go to Walgreen's and get this stuff called Fungi cure .

The earlier that an infection is detected, the easier it can be to treated.I have a nail fungus and am struggling to get rid of it, I dont want prescribed drugs can anyone help?
I tried the drugs from the doctor and they helped a little, but I had to keep having my blood tested and the long term out come is I still had the bad nails at the end of it all.

The other answers people have given are spot on and give gret advice, I found mostly though they tended to sooth rather than actuall cure and eliviate the symptoms. Definatley take on board the advice about wearing gloves and washing, as fungus can very easily be spread.

I tried Vics vapour rub too, it helped, but it has to be used continuously, which meant I smelt as though I had a cold all the time LOL.

I have since gone down the natural and herbal route, I apply cream every day, no smell and the symptoms are well under control, maybe do a bit fo research into this, there are some great olis out there.

Good Luck, hope that has helped.
i know someone who got a nail fungus from getting acrylic nails in a nail salon..she's had this fungus for over 2 years and even lost her fingernail because of it...she used prescription rx and everything else and nothing works..... my best advice to everyone is to stay out of the nail salons!!
wear gloves all the time! Seriously, you can buy some treatment over the counter at the chemist
Sea salt in a bowl of warm water or in a foot spar.
