Use shoes that allow evaporation of moisture. Avoid shoes with plastic linings. Sandals or canvas sneakers are best. Changing shoes every other day to allow them to dry out is a good idea.





Keeping the feet dry with the use of a powder is helpful in preventing reinfection. Over-the-counter drugs such as Desenex powder or cream may be used. The powder has the virtue of helping keep the toes dry. Tolnaftate (Tinactin, etc.), miconazole (Micatin, etc.), and clotrimazole (Lotrimin, etc.) are effective. The twice-daily application of a 30% aluminum chloride solution has been recommended for its drying and antibacterial properties. You will have to ask your pharmacist to make up the solution, but it is inexpensive.

My husband has a big toe nail exactly the same. We have recently bought Curanail to treat it. You get 3 months supply of stuff and, once a week, you file the nail and paint this stuff on it. It does state that, because nails grow so slowly, it does take a while. Finger nails up to 6 months and toe nails 9 - 12 months so it is not a quick fix.


Boots the chemist were wanting over 拢20 for Curanail but I searched online and got it for 拢13.98.
Vicks vapour rub is supposed to be good for fungal toenails. It needs to be applied once or twice a day for months on end though. I started treating mine with this but couldn't keep it up and am now going to get a prescription instead.
They sell fungal nail treatments at the pharmacy. I know if nothing you could use as a home remedy.


Treatment takes about 6 months.

is it finger nail or toe nails?





what i do....is...i put a little bit of baby oil on a cotton ball..and massage it into my toe nails and feet (callasus) before bed...then i put a pair of socks on....when I wake up...i rinse off and put lotion on them...and this makes my nail soften up..and fungus disappears....





there is also stuff out there for it..in the cvs ..over the counter remedies

I used to wear fake nail tips and the worst infection I ever got was the one time I had my nails done at a salon! Nothing OTC helped at all. Finally, I put a few ounces of bleach in a jar and dipped my nails 3 times a day. The green color faded and the nails grew out clean.
