My small toe, I guess it's the ';pinky toe'; turned yellow and know it is gray/white. I am a very clean person so this fungus didn't seem right... Well, I wanted to know if there are effective alternates to cure it. I don't want to take a medicine that can damage my liver, but I don't want an ugly toenail either. Is there a home remedy that actually helps cure/get-rid-of nail fungus?
Toe nail fungus remedy using tea tree oil
Tea tree oil is a potent natural antiseptic and fungicide that will help fight your fungus. Apply undiluted tea tree oil with olive oil to the affected toe nail. Alternatively you can put few drops of tea tree oil on toenails and rub it thoroughly every day.
Using Listerine mouthwash
Soak your toes in Listerine mouthwash. The powerful antiseptic leaves your toe nails looking healthy.
Curing toe nail fungus using warm water and natural apple cider vinegar
Soak your toenails for 15 - 20 minutes in basin full of warm water and natural apple cider vinegar mixed in equal proportion. When done, dry your toenails thoroughly. Use a hair dryer on warm setting to absorb all the moisture in and around the toes
Tea tree oil and Lavender oil
Put equal amount of tea tree oil and lavender oil on a cotton ball or swab. Dab it under the top edge of the toe nail and surrounding area 2 or 3 times a day. Tea tree oil is natural antibiotic and lavender will help fight the infection and prevent skin irritation
Using Oregano and Olive oil
Blend 2 drops of Oregano essential oil with a tsp of olive oil. Apply this mixture on the affected area daily for NOT more than three weeks. Oregano essential oil has antiseptic, antibacterial, antiparasitical, antiviral, analgesic and antifungal properties
AHA creams
Lather AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) creams on to your feet before going to bed. This will flush the rough scaly skin from your feet that is more prone to growing fungus
Is there a home remedy that actually helps cure/get-rid-of nail fungus?
This is not something you'll want to ignore too long but if it hasn't gotten too bad you can usually clear it up by applying teatree oil or soaking in white vinegar. You should see improvement within in a few days. If you don't then I would get the prescription med from the doctor. Unless your liver is already damaged or diseased, short-term use won't cause long term damage to your liver so no worries.

Does anyone have a true CURE for toe nail fungus?
here's the tricky part...
i know the pills are effective. my father used them and they worked great. only problem is they do come with side effects.
i'm looking for a external solution to bad toenail fungus. it's been there in the toes for some 15 years... i know, gross, but i've tried a ton of different cremes and none work completely. they start the job but in the end the fungus wins every time. i want the best creme used in extreme fungus alerts.
thanks people!Does anyone have a true CURE for toe nail fungus?
Hi Spark
They sell several topical solutions but I think that if you soak your toes in hydrogen peroxide for about 10 minutes a day for about a week that will take care of the problem also wear white sox for a while as the dyes in colored sox can cause some fungus to grow ( I had athlete foot problemd all the time till I changed to just white sox)Does anyone have a true CURE for toe nail fungus?
Nail fungus, is a condition that affects the nail of around 6% to 8% of the adult population. A change in color, thickening of the nail, becoming brittle, or rippled nail may be a sign of nail fungus. But it can be cured.
See http://www.squidoo.com/nail-fungus... for more
Some people have had good results by using Vick's Vaporub (the menthol chest rub for colds). It is cheap and has no side effects.
Cut your toes off.
Go to a good foot doctor and tell the doctor what you wrote to us. I sure they would know better. Good luck.
pills work, i give them to all my patients.. you will have to do some bloodwork for liver function called LFT's but if you are young and otherwise healthy, you should have clearer nails in 8 months or so
There is a clear nail polish that you can get by prescription from a doctor. I believe it is called penlac. It will get rid of fungal problems with toe-nails. The over the counter creams are generally not that effective.
Try some tea tree oil otherwise known as melaleuca alternifolia. It's from a tree in Australia and is found in most herb shops or Walmart or drug store. It's natural. It kills fungus, germs, and is a great pesticide. Even gets rid of head lice with a few drops to shampoo and conditioner.
RX: wash foot with soap( if liquid you can add two drops to it) %26amp; water then dry completely. drop 4 drops to infected area. place a clean cotton cloth or sock on foot. do this 2x's a day until 1 week after complete signs are gone. Remember it didn't get there over night it won't go away over night job, but it will get the job done. I know I had it just about the same as you.
Basically toe nail fungus is in most cases hereditary. If you do not want to take the pills then there is another option (i would go for the pills personally), but it is entirely up to you!
You will need to get a referral from you doctor or in some cases it can be performed at a local surgery. They basically Make an incision above the cuticle where the nerve is and cut out the infected area, this is what is causing you nail to grow fungus, once this is done your nail will grow normal and healthy. Do not be to scared, most people that have this treatment go home almost immediately without any complications. The area will be numb from the local anaesthetic and any if any pain (which should be minimal) can be minimised by simple pain killers.

What health insurance plans cover toenail fungus medication and nail removal surgery?
Hi,
I suffer from toenail fungus, and I've tried ALL home remedies available without success. I'm also about to buy health insurance. I thought I would take this opportunity to finally visit the doctor and get rid of this problem. My questions are:
1. Which health insurance plans offer the best coverage to treat toenail fungus?
2. Do they cover the medication and the surgery required in some cases to remove the toenail?
Thank you for all your help! What health insurance plans cover toenail fungus medication and nail removal surgery?
most insurance will cover the costs you mention if the doctor thinks it is medically necessary. What health insurance plans cover toenail fungus medication and nail removal surgery?
Theres many online sites that will provide you with free quotes. Try getting it bundled together with your car insurance if you can and home, here's some from my bookmarks:

Since this is a pre-existing condition there is a good chance that none of them will be willing to cover it.

How can i get rid of a green and black fungus on my nail?
any home remedies or products that might help?
fungus might be from false nails and water..How can i get rid of a green and black fungus on my nail?
ewwww!!!! go to the doctor!!How can i get rid of a green and black fungus on my nail?
you definitely need to get rid of fungus!
Getting rid of finger nail fungus is easier in some ways, and more difficult in others. Many people will act on a finger nail infection long before they will start asking how to get rid of toe nail fungus, simply because toes can be kept out of sight, but ugly fingernails are a daily embarrassment. People start getting rid of finger nail fungus before the infection is too far advanced. However, it's much harder to get a topical treatment to stay on a fingernail when you鈥檙e using your hands all the time, and it's much harder to sit for 15 to 30 minutes every day with your hands soaking in a solution.
Pick any method for getting rid of finger nail fungus, or any advice on how to get rid of toe nail fungus. If you do any reading, you will quickly discover that all methods are fickle. VapoRub works for some and not for others. Stories of success with a vinegar soak abound; so do stories of failure. Some lucky people report success in weeks; some stress that you may have to keep at it for a year or more. Even the prescription medications have a relatively poor success rate. The bottom line is that curing nail fungus infection is difficult.
for me and my husband worked very well ZetaClear! I think it is the fastest way to get rid of fungus! Nail fungus is tough to treat. The extracts in Zetaclear provide the most powerful therapeutic effect for healthy looking nails.
Obviously, you can't spray herbicide on your feet or hands! The next best thing is Zetaclear. It's made from all-natural homeopathic ingredients. This product works time after time and results are guaranteed. This extra strength solution is designed to be as aggressive and strong as possible, without causing irritation.
It worked fast and still works for me!
I do not know if any pharmacies carry ZetaClear but I do know that you should purchase it directly from the manufacturer and read more about the product here http://www.zetaclear.com/?aid=221781
ya stop getting your nails done, those places are just crawling with diseases!! you can paint your nails with genitian violet it will turn them purple but its a natural antifungal. put lavander oil or tea tree oil on them
You're going to need a prescription for that, I think....

Does anyone have a sure cure for toe nail fungus?
What treatments work best?Does anyone have a sure cure for toe nail fungus?
For fungal infection under the toenail, there are not topical treatements that are much effective, unless the toenail is removed. Oral prescription medications can be very effective. You may have to take them for long periods and the fungus may recur. See your doctor. Don't take someone else's prescription medication.
Check out the link for much more information from the Mayo Clinic.Does anyone have a sure cure for toe nail fungus?
Big bucket or container (large enough to put both feet in) fill with warm water and plenty of vinegar, then place your feet in and let them soak for awhile. Really does help, plus relaxing and soughing. :) good luck
This may seem crazy. Try agricultural corn gluten meal. Make a paste of it and apply it to the toe nail, wrap it with gauze or cloth to hold the paste in place.
The agricultural corn gluten meal has a powerful antifungal property in it. I've never had to use it myself but other people I know swear by it.
Try this link. If you contact them, they might be able to tell you where to find it in your area.
You may have to shop around but you'll find it at gardening stores, particularly the ones that sell products for organic gardening.
Go to the doctor. I got a severe case when I was in the Navy and was prowling around in wet marshy areas. The Navy doc gave me a product called Lamisil. He told me that it is the best stuff but it only works on about 80% of the people that use it. Nothing over the counter is going to work.
Oregano Oil kills it quickly. You have to wait for the nails to grow out but you can see the new nail is healthy.

I read in cosmo that if you take a regular nail filer and file the top few layers of your toenails...it will get rid of the discoloration. if that does not work then you prolly do have some kind of fungas which you can treat.....but you may need to get it perscribed by a foot doctor....get ride of

I typed nail fungus and got several sites and yes I am a victim of nail fungus, my doctor has prescribed an oral medication and it is working. The nails I had prior to treatment grew very thick and uncomfortable in my shoes. So as a result I had to use a dremel tool to grind down the thickness of the nails every few month so that I would not feel any discomfort in my shoes because of the thickness of the nails.

Is it true that Vicks vapor rub/mentholatum can rid one of toe nail fungus?
I was told this by a podiatristIs it true that Vicks vapor rub/mentholatum can rid one of toe nail fungus?
Yeah, I suppose it would work but there are a host of other unorthodox remedies that will work as well. For sure I can tell you to avoid a Rx product known by it's commercial name, Lamisil. It's reportedly a potent oral antifungal agent that can really do a number on a person's liver. Now tell me: Is it worth damaging your liver to rid yourself of toenail fungus? I think your answer is a resounding ';No!'; It's also very expensive costing upwards of $100/month. There's no doubt that the maker of the stuff is protecting it's patents to it and rigging the price as high as they can get away with. I've had recurring bouts of toenail fungus for several years. I've always beens an avid walker so my feet get sweaty, which fungi love; however, I've had success using ordinary kitchen vinegar. Fungus hates an acidic environment which is essential what gives vinegar its sour taste - acid. So if you use the stuff twice a day dabbing it on the affected toes I can assure you postive results. I've found a useful website for you to refer to: http://www.healthguidance.org/entry/4948鈥?/a>Is it true that Vicks vapor rub/mentholatum can rid one of toe nail fungus?
A Podiatrist is a Medical Doctor that specializes in the foot...so I'm pretty certain that if he/she recommended Vicks for your foot fungus, then I'd definitely try it.
Unfortunately toenail fungus is difficult to treat because your feet are warm .... The cure is so simple. Take distilled white vinegar and put drops on your toes in a bowl of water.
Its news to me there this pill for your nails but its exipensive and its not good for your liver and kidneys ask your doctor.
I actually just read that in a medical column in the newspaper...guess you could try it to see.
Probably not. Try tea tree oil, this will kill all fungus. (by comparison, vinegar will kill about 80% of all mold types, and mold is a fungus) I've been using tea tree oil on mine for about three weeks and half the hard encrustation under the toenail is gone; I can dig out a little more each day with the end of a nail file. Now I have a big space under half of my toenail that used to be packed with hard crust from the fungus.
I just put a few drops of tea tree oil under the edge of my toenail and let it soak in; I do this in the morning and again at night. It is having a devastating effect on the toenail fungus.
Fungus grows with water, so diluting vinegar with water (when vinegar is already diluted with water) is putting mainly water on the fungus. If you use pure tea tree oil there is no water at all, and this seems to me to be a much better idea.
Just telling you what I know works.
